Outside/Online Pharmacy Policy
As your pet’s care provider, it is our top priority to ensure your pet receives not only the right medication for their individual health needs, but medications that are produced and sold by reputable manufacturers and distributors. With the increasing popularity of online pet pharmacies and retailers, there have been increasing numbers of reports of dubious practices, such as dispensing counterfeit, adulterated, and expired medications; substituting similar, but non-equivalent products; randomly changing drug strengths and dosage instructions provided by the veterinarian; obtaining products illegally through redirection; filling prescriptions beyond their expiration dates; and more.
To help protect your pet from potential hazards, it is our policy to only fill medications prescribed by our veterinarians through our hospital’s pharmacy or issue handwritten prescriptions that you can pick up and take anywhere you’d like.
We will no longer honor emails, faxes, or electronic prescription requests from third-party online pharmacies. If an online pharmacy sends us a request via fax or email, it will be declined.
Please allow 48-72 hours for your written prescription to be approved and ready to pick up. Please check with your pharmacy on how they handle written prescriptions in advance so there won’t be any lapse in medications if they require you to mail them in.
We recommend only using online pharmacies that have been accredited by organizations such as the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) or Veterinary-Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites (Vet-VIPPS).
Filling your pet’s prescription through our pharmacy will ensure your pet is receiving safe, high-quality medications and your pet’s medical records stay current.
